Art Portfolio: Materials research

Today, I will do a material list for my bridge. However, before I will do a research of them to find the most sustaneble.
As the main material for the bridge is glass, I started to look at different types of it for the bridge. I was looking for strong, inexpensive and lasting material. I know a lot about different glass types because of my previous project. I did a lot of research. So, at the start, I was thinking about laminated glass. It's not expensive, safe and practical material; however, the minus is that it needs to be restored after a couple of years. Next, I was thinking about a Gorilla Glass, quite new material that is perfect for glass bridges, good sustanebility, lightweight and extremely strong but, expensive. So, I stopped on SentryGlas (Ionoplast Interlayer), which has better structural integrity and impact resistance than traditional PVB interlayers. The best budget option with good quality and strength.

Also, between the glass should be Supporting Materials; there is not much of a choice for glass. The decision was between High-Strength Steel (Stainless Steel 316L), that have corrosion-resistant and durable, or Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymers (CFRP), which is a Lightweight and highly durable alternative to steel. But my de fir Hight-strenght steel because it more lasting and cheeper.

There is a very big choice of materials for suspensions, such as Concrete, steel, and stone. Stell is expensive for plain, v-designed piers that are on design. Also, it's hard to make them in this form and stick them in the ground. Stone is not a very practical material for Ukraine and concrete is the most popular in this country because it is cheap, sustainable, and maybe not very eco-friendly; however, it will last for ages because water pressure and current are not very strong, and this is the only contraindication for it.
This is the main elements material, all other parts as road, stairs all suspensions will be choosen by ingeniers, builders. Also, some small material component changes can be made to the materials that I choose because of my lack of cvalification and knowledge.

  1. Good you have made a start on these materials - I do think this could have been done earlier in the process and you could have researched much more on this
